Determined, perceptive, and strong-willed, the Scorpio child has tremendous energy. From early childhood, it appears in intense emotions and a desire to test themselves. Despite their independence and uncompromising manner, they deeply need understanding and trust. Help them make room for patience, compassion, and forgiveness, and they can grow into a compelling, purposeful person.
The Scorpio Baby
Little Scorpio arrives with so much strength that managing it can be difficult. It comes out in a torrent. Whether demanding attention, refusing an unloved breakfast, or resisting sleep, they commit completely. As they grow, the same determination will defend their principles and convictions.
You won't see many half measures. Doubt seems foreign to them from infancy, as though they were born knowing exactly what is good and bad for them. That certainty only strengthens with age: black or white, with little room for shades between.

You probably won't completely tame a child who wants unrestricted independence, but you can teach respect for your authority and an understanding of discipline early. Indecision and giving in too readily won't help.
Raising a Scorpio Child
People often notice the familiar Scorpio traits first: self-assurance, a quick temper, secrecy. Don't jump to conclusions. These children's emotional lives are full of contradictions and far more complex than they initially seem.
For a start, they're extraordinarily receptive and sensitive to the world. They want to reach the truth, understand why people behave as they do, and uncover knowledge hidden beneath the surface. Mysteries, the forbidden, detective stories, fantasy, and the supernatural can all attract them early.
That intense private activity appears in different ways. One Scorpio is energetic and headstrong; another is quiet and absorbed in books or computer games. Both have an appetite for experiences that push beyond the ordinary. They may seek them in extreme sports, the mysteries of ancient civilizations, or the exploration of strange and dangerous places.
Parents need to keep that urge to test limits from becoming destructive, through street fights or harmful habits, for example. Music, drawing, dance, and sports offer better outlets. Keep both mind and body engaged. Scorpio has enough energy and talent to explore many things.
Remember how easily they're hurt. Difficult feelings can accumulate and, without an outlet, sour into withdrawal, suspicion, and vulnerability. Encourage them to talk about feelings and share opinions. Take their anxieties seriously and remind them of your unconditional love. Those conversations can benefit you, too: young Scorpios are often wise beyond their years and can astonish you with insights drawn from observation and intuition.
Despite their emotional intensity, they reason and analyze exceptionally well. However difficult a moment becomes, rely on convincing discussion and logical arguments. Physical punishment is unacceptable and can provoke an even more aggressive response.
A Scorpio Child with Friends
Scorpio doesn't rush into countless acquaintances. In unfamiliar company, they usually watch and miss very little. Close, trusting friendships develop with people who can handle their unpredictable temperament. Once someone becomes a true friend, Scorpio is as loyal and honest as a friend could be.
They want to lead less from vanity than from a need for independence and a dislike of taking orders. Their all-or-nothing approach carries into friendships. They're attached and attentive to people they love, but someone who hurts their feelings, even accidentally, may discover a fierce and uncompromising enemy.
They can be intolerant of other people's flaws, especially weakness. That makes interactions outside their close circle rather tense.
Help them understand from childhood that people are imperfect and deserve tolerance. Show kindness by example, teach care for vulnerable creatures, and above all help them learn to forgive.
A Scorpio Child at School
Scorpio has enough ability and curiosity to achieve remarkable results. Poor grades usually mean they've lost interest in a subject or in school as a whole. Pride, more than persuasion, brings them back to their books: they don't like being among the students falling behind.
They have the makings of success in almost any profession. Let them choose their own direction. Courage, persistence, dedication, and determination will give them more than enough strength to pursue their goal through whatever difficulties arise.
