What happens
The Moon crosses a sign in a little over two days, making exact aspects to the planets along the way. After the last exact aspect and before it enters the next sign, there is a gap – that gap is the void of course Moon.
Why you notice it
In astrological tradition the Moon governs mood, reactions and how other people respond. During the gap that response can be weaker, so something you begin sometimes develops along a different line than you planned.
How long it lasts
From a few minutes to about a day and a half. The average is a few hours. The long ones happen when the Moon covers the rest of a sign without meeting a planet; they are flagged in the table.

We count the major aspects from the Moon to the Sun and to the planets from Mercury to Pluto. Some schools count differently – including aspects to the nodes, or only the classical planets – so schedules can differ slightly from site to site.
