Retrograde Planets in April

The bar shows what part of the month each planet spends moving backward. Retrograde motion isn't a "ban" – it's a change of rhythm: the planet's theme needs more attention and a second look.

Void of Course Moon in April

The void of course Moon is the gap after the Moon has made its last exact aspect in a sign and before it enters the next one. The classic rule is that whatever begins then "comes to nothing" – bad for launches, signatures and purchases, good for routine, tidying, rest and finishing off old things. This month has 13 of them, 90 hours in total, of them 1 long one (over 12 hours).

Starts Ends Duration Last aspect Moon enters
April 2 April 2 4 hr 55 min Trine to Mercury in Virgo
April 4 April 4 8 hr 01 min Opposition to Neptune in Libra
April 6 April 7 17 hr 46 min Opposition to Jupiter in Scorpio
April 9 April 9 3 hr 47 min Opposition to Venus in Sagittarius
April 11 April 11 6 hr 46 min Square to Neptune in Capricorn
April 13 April 13 6 hr 28 min Sextile to Neptune in Aquarius
April 15 April 15 7 hr 41 min Sextile to Sun in Pisces
April 17 April 17 6 hr 13 min Conjunction to Neptune in Aries
April 20 April 20 0 hr 17 min Conjunction to Sun in Taurus
April 21 April 22 6 hr 30 min Sextile to Neptune in Gemini
April 24 April 24 6 hr 43 min Square to Neptune in Cancer
April 26 April 27 6 hr 49 min Trine to Neptune in Leo
April 29 April 29 8 hr 07 min Trine to Jupiter in Virgo

We count the classical (Ptolemaic) aspects from the Moon to the Sun and to the planets from Mercury to Pluto. Sites that count only the seven traditional planets get longer windows – sometimes by a day or more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an astrology calendar, exactly?

It is a schedule of what happens in the sky: when planets form exact angles to each other (aspects), when they move from sign to sign, when the Moon goes through its phases, and when a planet turns retrograde. A horoscope is somebody's interpretation. An astrology calendar is the raw data those interpretations are built on.

Why don't your times match another site?

Usually it is the time zone. Many astrology sites publish in Universal Time (UT), and we show Eastern Time by default, which is 4 or 5 hours behind it. That alone can move an event to the neighbouring day. The time zone switch in the panel at the top settles it in a second.

Does an aspect work exactly at the minute you list?

That is the minute it goes exact. The effect is felt wider – usually a day before and a day after, and for slow planets, for weeks. The exact time tells you where the peak is; it is not something to set an alarm for.

What do you do with a void of course Moon?

Don't start anything that matters in that window: signings, purchases, introductions, first meetings. It is excellent time for routine, for clearing the backlog, for tidying up and for rest. The windows run from a few minutes to a full day – see the table above.

Is a retrograde planet a bad thing?

No. Retrograde motion is an optical effect: from Earth the planet appears to move backward. Astrologically it is a change of mode: the planet's theme works inward and backward instead of forward. The only bad move is pushing hard at something that has no tailwind right now.

Where do these numbers come from?

We calculate the dates from the NASA JPL ephemerides JPL DE440. There is more about the sources and the checks on the methodology page.

Take the calendar with you The month's events as a single .ics file: it opens in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook and anything else that understands the format. It downloads immediately and asks nothing about you.
