Retrograde Planets in April

The bar shows what part of the month each planet spends moving backward. Retrograde motion isn't a "ban" – it's a change of rhythm: the planet's theme needs more attention and a second look.

  • Jupiter retrograde – growth goes deep instead of wide: beliefs get re-examined, and so does what you counted as luck.

Void of Course Moon in April

The void of course Moon is the gap after the Moon has made its last exact aspect in a sign and before it enters the next one. The classic rule is that whatever begins then "comes to nothing" – bad for launches, signatures and purchases, good for routine, tidying, rest and finishing off old things. This month has 14 of them, 140 hours in total, of them 6 long ones (over 12 hours).

Starts Ends Duration Last aspect Moon enters
April 1 April 1 2 hr 35 min Sextile to Saturn in Cancer
April 3 April 3 1 hr 59 min Square to Saturn in Leo
April 5 April 5 1 hr 28 min Trine to Saturn in Virgo
April 7 April 7 16 hr 53 min Conjunction to Jupiter in Libra
April 9 April 9 0 hr 38 min Opposition to Saturn in Scorpio
April 11 April 12 18 hr 47 min Sextile to Jupiter in Sagittarius
April 14 April 14 4 hr 46 min Trine to Mercury in Capricorn
April 16 April 16 5 hr 34 min Square to Sun in Aquarius
April 19 April 19 0 hr 12 min Sextile to Sun in Pisces
April 20 April 21 23 hr 22 min Opposition to Jupiter in Aries
April 24 April 24 5 hr 24 min Conjunction to Mars in Taurus
April 25 April 26 15 hr 41 min Conjunction to Mercury in Gemini
April 27 April 28 21 hr 42 min Square to Jupiter in Cancer
April 30 May 1 21 hr 14 min Sextile to Jupiter in Leo

We count the classical (Ptolemaic) aspects from the Moon to the Sun and to the planets from Mercury to Pluto. Sites that count only the seven traditional planets get longer windows – sometimes by a day or more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an astrology calendar, exactly?

It is a schedule of what happens in the sky: when planets form exact angles to each other (aspects), when they move from sign to sign, when the Moon goes through its phases, and when a planet turns retrograde. A horoscope is somebody's interpretation. An astrology calendar is the raw data those interpretations are built on.

Why don't your times match another site?

Usually it is the time zone. Many astrology sites publish in Universal Time (UT), and we show Eastern Time by default, which is 4 or 5 hours behind it. That alone can move an event to the neighbouring day. The time zone switch in the panel at the top settles it in a second.

Does an aspect work exactly at the minute you list?

That is the minute it goes exact. The effect is felt wider – usually a day before and a day after, and for slow planets, for weeks. The exact time tells you where the peak is; it is not something to set an alarm for.

What do you do with a void of course Moon?

Don't start anything that matters in that window: signings, purchases, introductions, first meetings. It is excellent time for routine, for clearing the backlog, for tidying up and for rest. The windows run from a few minutes to a full day – see the table above.

Is a retrograde planet a bad thing?

No. Retrograde motion is an optical effect: from Earth the planet appears to move backward. Astrologically it is a change of mode: the planet's theme works inward and backward instead of forward. The only bad move is pushing hard at something that has no tailwind right now.

Where do these numbers come from?

We calculate the dates from the NASA JPL ephemerides JPL DE440. There is more about the sources and the checks on the methodology page.

Take the calendar with you The month's events as a single .ics file: it opens in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook and anything else that understands the format. It downloads immediately and asks nothing about you.
