Retrograde Planets in October

The bar shows what part of the month each planet spends moving backward. Retrograde motion isn't a "ban" – it's a change of rhythm: the planet's theme needs more attention and a second look.

1 6 11 16 21 26 31
Mercury
From Sep 19, 2028 to October 11
Saturn
From Aug 22, 2028 to Jan 5, 2029
Uranus
From Sep 18, 2028 to Feb 16, 2029
Neptune

Pluto
From May 9, 2028 to October 18
Chiron
From Aug 11, 2028 to Jan 13, 2029
  • Mercury retrograde – deadlines drift, devices act up, and agreements are worth re-reading and saying out loud twice.
  • Saturn retrograde – a stress test: unfinished commitments and old debts come back around.
  • Uranus retrograde – change moves inward – quieter on the outside, rearranging on the inside.
  • Neptune retrograde – the fog lifts: you can see where the illusions were.
  • Pluto retrograde – deep work: the old lets go slowly and with no witnesses.
  • Chiron retrograde – an old wound speaks up again – so that it finally gets heard.

Void of Course Moon in October

The void of course Moon is the gap after the Moon has made its last exact aspect in a sign and before it enters the next one. The classic rule is that whatever begins then "comes to nothing" – bad for launches, signatures and purchases, good for routine, tidying, rest and finishing off old things. This month has 13 of them, 216 hours in total, of them 8 long ones (over 12 hours).

Starts Ends Duration Last aspect Moon enters
October 1 October 2 32 hr 01 min Square to Uranus in Aries
October 4 October 5 23 hr 11 min Trine to Mars in Taurus
October 6 October 7 19 hr 34 min Square to Mars in Gemini
October 9 October 9 15 hr 58 min Sextile to Mars in Cancer
October 11 October 12 19 hr 56 min Square to Sun in Leo
October 13 October 14 9 hr 38 min Conjunction to Mars in Virgo
October 15 October 16 23 hr 13 min Conjunction to Venus in Libra
October 18 October 18 5 hr 24 min Sextile to Mars in Scorpio
October 20 October 20 3 hr 37 min Square to Mars in Sagittarius
October 22 October 22 0 hr 26 min Sextile to Sun in Capricorn
October 24 October 24 6 hr 41 min Trine to Venus in Aquarius
October 26 October 27 23 hr 04 min Trine to Mercury in Pisces
October 28 October 29 33 hr 12 min Square to Uranus in Aries

We count the classical (Ptolemaic) aspects from the Moon to the Sun and to the planets from Mercury to Pluto. Sites that count only the seven traditional planets get longer windows – sometimes by a day or more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an astrology calendar, exactly?

It is a schedule of what happens in the sky: when planets form exact angles to each other (aspects), when they move from sign to sign, when the Moon goes through its phases, and when a planet turns retrograde. A horoscope is somebody's interpretation. An astrology calendar is the raw data those interpretations are built on.

Why don't your times match another site?

Usually it is the time zone. Many astrology sites publish in Universal Time (UT), and we show Eastern Time by default, which is 4 or 5 hours behind it. That alone can move an event to the neighbouring day. The time zone switch in the panel at the top settles it in a second.

Does an aspect work exactly at the minute you list?

That is the minute it goes exact. The effect is felt wider – usually a day before and a day after, and for slow planets, for weeks. The exact time tells you where the peak is; it is not something to set an alarm for.

What do you do with a void of course Moon?

Don't start anything that matters in that window: signings, purchases, introductions, first meetings. It is excellent time for routine, for clearing the backlog, for tidying up and for rest. The windows run from a few minutes to a full day – see the table above.

Is a retrograde planet a bad thing?

No. Retrograde motion is an optical effect: from Earth the planet appears to move backward. Astrologically it is a change of mode: the planet's theme works inward and backward instead of forward. The only bad move is pushing hard at something that has no tailwind right now.

Where do these numbers come from?

We calculate the dates from the NASA JPL ephemerides JPL DE440. There is more about the sources and the checks on the methodology page.

Take the calendar with you The month's events as a single .ics file: it opens in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook and anything else that understands the format. It downloads immediately and asks nothing about you.
