Retrograde Planets in December

The bar shows what part of the month each planet spends moving backward. Retrograde motion isn't a "ban" – it's a change of rhythm: the planet's theme needs more attention and a second look.

1 6 11 16 21 26 31
Saturn
From Aug 22, 2028 to Jan 5, 2029
Uranus
From Sep 18, 2028 to Feb 16, 2029
Neptune
From Jul 11, 2028 to December 16
Chiron
From Aug 11, 2028 to Jan 13, 2029
  • Saturn retrograde – a stress test: unfinished commitments and old debts come back around.
  • Uranus retrograde – change moves inward – quieter on the outside, rearranging on the inside.
  • Neptune retrograde – the fog lifts: you can see where the illusions were.
  • Chiron retrograde – an old wound speaks up again – so that it finally gets heard.

Void of Course Moon in December

The void of course Moon is the gap after the Moon has made its last exact aspect in a sign and before it enters the next one. The classic rule is that whatever begins then "comes to nothing" – bad for launches, signatures and purchases, good for routine, tidying, rest and finishing off old things. This month has 14 of them, 127 hours in total, of them 5 long ones (over 12 hours).

Starts Ends Duration Last aspect Moon enters
November 30 December 1 18 hr 31 min Trine to Mars in Gemini
December 2 December 3 15 hr 35 min Square to Mars in Cancer
December 5 December 5 13 hr 04 min Sextile to Mars in Leo
December 7 December 7 7 hr 14 min Trine to Mercury in Virgo
December 9 December 9 0 hr 49 min Square to Mercury in Libra
December 11 December 11 13 hr 09 min Conjunction to Jupiter in Scorpio
December 14 December 14 1 hr 58 min Conjunction to Venus in Sagittarius
December 16 December 16 3 hr 55 min Square to Mars in Capricorn
December 18 December 18 2 hr 11 min Trine to Mars in Aquarius
December 20 December 20 0 hr 22 min Sextile to Sun in Pisces
December 22 December 23 22 hr 40 min Sextile to Mercury in Aries
December 25 December 25 11 hr 35 min Opposition to Jupiter in Taurus
December 28 December 28 6 hr 55 min Trine to Mercury in Gemini
December 30 December 30 9 hr 22 min Trine to Jupiter in Cancer

We count the classical (Ptolemaic) aspects from the Moon to the Sun and to the planets from Mercury to Pluto. Sites that count only the seven traditional planets get longer windows – sometimes by a day or more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an astrology calendar, exactly?

It is a schedule of what happens in the sky: when planets form exact angles to each other (aspects), when they move from sign to sign, when the Moon goes through its phases, and when a planet turns retrograde. A horoscope is somebody's interpretation. An astrology calendar is the raw data those interpretations are built on.

Why don't your times match another site?

Usually it is the time zone. Many astrology sites publish in Universal Time (UT), and we show Eastern Time by default, which is 4 or 5 hours behind it. That alone can move an event to the neighbouring day. The time zone switch in the panel at the top settles it in a second.

Does an aspect work exactly at the minute you list?

That is the minute it goes exact. The effect is felt wider – usually a day before and a day after, and for slow planets, for weeks. The exact time tells you where the peak is; it is not something to set an alarm for.

What do you do with a void of course Moon?

Don't start anything that matters in that window: signings, purchases, introductions, first meetings. It is excellent time for routine, for clearing the backlog, for tidying up and for rest. The windows run from a few minutes to a full day – see the table above.

Is a retrograde planet a bad thing?

No. Retrograde motion is an optical effect: from Earth the planet appears to move backward. Astrologically it is a change of mode: the planet's theme works inward and backward instead of forward. The only bad move is pushing hard at something that has no tailwind right now.

Where do these numbers come from?

We calculate the dates from the NASA JPL ephemerides JPL DE440. There is more about the sources and the checks on the methodology page.

Take the calendar with you The month's events as a single .ics file: it opens in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook and anything else that understands the format. It downloads immediately and asks nothing about you.
