Retrograde Planets in August

The bar shows what part of the month each planet spends moving backward. Retrograde motion isn't a "ban" – it's a change of rhythm: the planet's theme needs more attention and a second look.

  • Mercury retrograde – deadlines drift, devices act up, and agreements are worth re-reading and saying out loud twice.
  • Venus retrograde – you get pulled back to what already happened: old relationships, old purchases, an old sense of taste.
  • Saturn retrograde – a stress test: unfinished commitments and old debts come back around.
  • Uranus retrograde – change moves inward – quieter on the outside, rearranging on the inside.
  • Neptune retrograde – the fog lifts: you can see where the illusions were.
  • Pluto retrograde – deep work: the old lets go slowly and with no witnesses.
  • Chiron retrograde – an old wound speaks up again – so that it finally gets heard.

Void of Course Moon in August

The void of course Moon is the gap after the Moon has made its last exact aspect in a sign and before it enters the next one. The classic rule is that whatever begins then "comes to nothing" – bad for launches, signatures and purchases, good for routine, tidying, rest and finishing off old things. This month has 13 of them, 58 hours in total, of them 1 long one (over 12 hours).

Starts Ends Duration Last aspect Moon enters
August 2 August 2 5 hr 50 min Opposition to Venus in Pisces
August 4 August 4 1 hr 59 min Sextile to Pluto in Aries
August 7 August 7 2 hr 12 min Square to Pluto in Taurus
August 9 August 9 2 hr 26 min Trine to Pluto in Gemini
August 11 August 11 5 hr 25 min Square to Neptune in Cancer
August 14 August 14 2 hr 50 min Opposition to Pluto in Leo
August 16 August 16 13 hr 36 min Conjunction to Sun in Virgo
August 19 August 19 3 hr 02 min Trine to Pluto in Libra
August 21 August 21 2 hr 51 min Sextile to Sun in Scorpio
August 24 August 24 2 hr 57 min Sextile to Pluto in Sagittarius
August 26 August 26 1 hr 09 min Square to Mars in Capricorn
August 28 August 28 2 hr 43 min Conjunction to Pluto in Aquarius
August 29 August 30 10 hr 52 min Square to Uranus in Pisces

We count the classical (Ptolemaic) aspects from the Moon to the Sun and to the planets from Mercury to Pluto. Sites that count only the seven traditional planets get longer windows – sometimes by a day or more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an astrology calendar, exactly?

It is a schedule of what happens in the sky: when planets form exact angles to each other (aspects), when they move from sign to sign, when the Moon goes through its phases, and when a planet turns retrograde. A horoscope is somebody's interpretation. An astrology calendar is the raw data those interpretations are built on.

Why don't your times match another site?

Usually it is the time zone. Many astrology sites publish in Universal Time (UT), and we show Eastern Time by default, which is 4 or 5 hours behind it. That alone can move an event to the neighbouring day. The time zone switch in the panel at the top settles it in a second.

Does an aspect work exactly at the minute you list?

That is the minute it goes exact. The effect is felt wider – usually a day before and a day after, and for slow planets, for weeks. The exact time tells you where the peak is; it is not something to set an alarm for.

What do you do with a void of course Moon?

Don't start anything that matters in that window: signings, purchases, introductions, first meetings. It is excellent time for routine, for clearing the backlog, for tidying up and for rest. The windows run from a few minutes to a full day – see the table above.

Is a retrograde planet a bad thing?

No. Retrograde motion is an optical effect: from Earth the planet appears to move backward. Astrologically it is a change of mode: the planet's theme works inward and backward instead of forward. The only bad move is pushing hard at something that has no tailwind right now.

Where do these numbers come from?

We calculate the dates from the NASA JPL ephemerides JPL DE440. There is more about the sources and the checks on the methodology page.

Take the calendar with you The month's events as a single .ics file: it opens in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook and anything else that understands the format. It downloads immediately and asks nothing about you.
