Retrograde Planets in August

The bar shows what part of the month each planet spends moving backward. Retrograde motion isn't a "ban" – it's a change of rhythm: the planet's theme needs more attention and a second look.

1 6 11 16 21 26 31

Saturn
From Jul 13, 2025 to Nov 27, 2025

Pluto

From Jul 30, 2025 to Jan 2, 2026
  • Mercury retrograde – deadlines drift, devices act up, and agreements are worth re-reading and saying out loud twice.
  • Saturn retrograde – a stress test: unfinished commitments and old debts come back around.
  • Neptune retrograde – the fog lifts: you can see where the illusions were.
  • Pluto retrograde – deep work: the old lets go slowly and with no witnesses.
  • Chiron retrograde – an old wound speaks up again – so that it finally gets heard.

Void of Course Moon in August

The void of course Moon is the gap after the Moon has made its last exact aspect in a sign and before it enters the next one. The classic rule is that whatever begins then "comes to nothing" – bad for launches, signatures and purchases, good for routine, tidying, rest and finishing off old things. This month has 13 of them, 204 hours in total, of them 7 long ones (over 12 hours).

Starts Ends Duration Last aspect Moon enters
August 2 August 3 4 hr 53 min Sextile to Mars in Sagittarius
August 5 August 5 1 hr 35 min Square to Mars in Capricorn
August 6 August 7 31 hr 38 min Opposition to Jupiter in Aquarius
August 9 August 10 22 hr 55 min Opposition to Sun in Pisces
August 11 August 12 27 hr 38 min Trine to Jupiter in Aries
August 13 August 14 14 hr 28 min Trine to Sun in Taurus
August 16 August 16 10 hr 49 min Square to Sun in Gemini
August 18 August 18 7 hr 12 min Sextile to Sun in Cancer
August 20 August 20 10 hr 50 min Conjunction to Venus in Leo
August 21 August 23 35 hr 11 min Conjunction to Mercury in Virgo
August 25 August 25 0 hr 15 min Sextile to Venus in Libra
August 26 August 27 23 hr 21 min Sextile to Mercury in Scorpio
August 29 August 30 13 hr 17 min Square to Mercury in Sagittarius

We count the classical (Ptolemaic) aspects from the Moon to the Sun and to the planets from Mercury to Pluto. Sites that count only the seven traditional planets get longer windows – sometimes by a day or more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an astrology calendar, exactly?

It is a schedule of what happens in the sky: when planets form exact angles to each other (aspects), when they move from sign to sign, when the Moon goes through its phases, and when a planet turns retrograde. A horoscope is somebody's interpretation. An astrology calendar is the raw data those interpretations are built on.

Why don't your times match another site?

Usually it is the time zone. Many astrology sites publish in Universal Time (UT), and we show Eastern Time by default, which is 4 or 5 hours behind it. That alone can move an event to the neighbouring day. The time zone switch in the panel at the top settles it in a second.

Does an aspect work exactly at the minute you list?

That is the minute it goes exact. The effect is felt wider – usually a day before and a day after, and for slow planets, for weeks. The exact time tells you where the peak is; it is not something to set an alarm for.

What do you do with a void of course Moon?

Don't start anything that matters in that window: signings, purchases, introductions, first meetings. It is excellent time for routine, for clearing the backlog, for tidying up and for rest. The windows run from a few minutes to a full day – see the table above.

Is a retrograde planet a bad thing?

No. Retrograde motion is an optical effect: from Earth the planet appears to move backward. Astrologically it is a change of mode: the planet's theme works inward and backward instead of forward. The only bad move is pushing hard at something that has no tailwind right now.

Where do these numbers come from?

We calculate the dates from the NASA JPL ephemerides JPL DE440. There is more about the sources and the checks on the methodology page.

Take the calendar with you The month's events as a single .ics file: it opens in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar, Outlook and anything else that understands the format. It downloads immediately and asks nothing about you.
