March 21 – April 19
Aries' Planet: ♂ Mars.
Aries is one of the best-known zodiac constellations, although none of its stars is brighter than second magnitude. In Greek mythology, it represents the flying ram, Crius, whose Golden Fleece the Argonauts set out to find.
Astrologers in ancient Sumer called the constellation the “Ram's Head.” In Babylon, it was the “Hired Man,” although the meanings behind the two names may have been quite close.
Aries lies in the northern celestial hemisphere, near Triangulum and Cetus. One of its astronomical jewels is vdB 16, a reflection nebula with a striking, delicate blue glow.
The familiar Aries symbol, ♈, stands for more than a ram's curling horns. The ancient Greeks used it two thousand years ago to mark the vernal equinox, which at that time lay in Aries rather than in Pisces, where it is today.
Aries Astrology: Dates, Element, and Ruling Planet
Aries Months: March and April
Aries is the first sign of the zodiac. Its season begins at the spring equinox, when the Sun enters the sign, and runs, depending on the year, from March 20–21 to April 20–21.
Aries Season: Spring
Aries marks the start of spring and is the first of its three zodiac signs. The days grow longer; living things wake and reach toward the Sun. Nature's awakening is a rush of growth, upward and onward. That is why Aries, born at this time of year, wants to keep growing and reaching new heights. Endless energy, the ability to push ahead, resilience, and courage define the sign.
Aries' Element: Fire
Fire is the Sun's untamed, life-giving energy: the energy of life itself. Three signs share its power: Aries, Leo, and Sagittarius. Fire gives all three their drive, vitality, and creativity.
Fire governs instinct, spirit, and the mind. It keeps Aries moving forward, holding on to hope and self-belief, and standing up for what they believe.
Aries' Ruling Planet: Mars
In astrology, Mars is the planet of tremendous energy and powerful passions. Its motto is “I act!” It rules emotion, passion, the urge to do things, the appetite for life, and sudden surges of feeling. Mars gives Aries drive and the gift of persuasion. Its influence makes Aries excellent lawyers, politicians, scientists, and businesspeople: active, enterprising people who don't wait for fate to be kind, but take their lives into their own hands.
Aries colors: Red, orange, and all the shades of yellow found in flames and the rising Sun.
Aries metal: Iron.
Aries talisman stones: Amethyst and diamond.
Aries' opposite and complementary sign: Libra.
